Since its establishment in 1988, the Bucheon Philharmonic orchestra has been famous for its exceptional performance and wide-ranging repertoire. It has grown to become Korea’s best orchestra and rivals other great orchestras not only in Korea but also the world.The Bucheon Philharmonic orchestra is particularly well-known for its full-length performance of Mahler’s symphony. Performing Mahler’s symphony from 1999 to 2003, the orchestra was recognized for its interpretation breathing new life into Mahler’s symphonic world. This was also a landmark in Korean music history since it was the first time this performance was evenattempted in Korea. The Bucheon Philharmonic’s ceaseless effort and outstanding performance has attracted overwhelming support from domestic art specialists. It was also the first music group to win the Hoam Arts Award, which is considered theKorean version of the Nobel Prize, in 2005, confirming its unrivalled status as Korea’s top orchestra.
